The Bossa Nova & Latin Collection

Here are all of our backing tracks of bossa nova and other latin styles. Bossa nova, or "new trend" began in Brazil in the 1950s and was based on a samba, but giving more emphasis to the melody and having a gentler rhythm.

Antonio Jobim is the most famous bossa nova composer while Joao Gilberto is one of the most famous guitarist/singers of the genre they both helped to create. Many of their tunes feature in our backing tracks library.

Bossa Nova was popularised in america when Stan Getz introduced Girl From Ipanema with Astrid Gilberto on vocals. Almost overnight Bossa Nova sounds could be heard everywhere and were being performed by everyone. But this flavor of the month success story has lived on, surviving for decades. Who can say the reason for it's popularity, but one thing is for certain, it sits comfortably and naturally in the jazz idiom.

Other Latin styles to be found in jazz are Salsas and Sambas. The music of Cuba and Brazil have had a big influence on Latin Jazz.
