How to Download and Access Your Backing Tracks

How to Download and Access Your Backing Tracks

We want you to enjoy your backing tracks as soon as you download them. Because everyone's setup is a little different, here is a quick guide to help you get started:

1. Opening Your Files

Your backing tracks come in a “zip” file, which contains your audio (mp3) and supporting documents (like lead sheet PDFs for C, Bb, and Eb instruments).

  • On a computer: Simply double-click the file, or right-click and select ‘Open.’ Many modern computers will extract the files automatically into a new folder for you.
  • On a tablet or smartphone: Depending on your device (iPad, iPhone, or Android), you may need to tap the file to download it, then open your device’s “Files” or “Downloads” app to see the contents. If your device doesn’t open the zip file automatically, you might need a free “Unzip” app from your device’s app store.

2. Getting Music Onto Your Phone or Tablet

If you want to play your tracks on a mobile device, the best method is usually to use your computer to download and unzip the files first, and then transfer them:

  • Syncing: Once you have the mp3 files unzipped on your computer, you can easily add them to your music library (like Apple Music or iTunes) and sync them to your phone or tablet.
  • Cloud Storage: Alternatively, if you use a service like iCloud, Google Drive, or Dropbox, you can upload the unzipped mp3 files to your cloud folder. Once uploaded, you can access and play them from the app on any of your devices.

Note: If you purchased a “Learn To Improvise” track, you won’t receive an mp3 file. Instead, you’ll find a link directly in your download email to stream the track instantly.
